3-14-11 The Rock vs John Cena vs The Miz (The Rock's promo)

Finally The Rock addresses Cena and says what I've always thought about John Cena. The Rock's been pretty funny and said some things I've agreed with about Cena but this promo hit the nail on the head. To be clear, I don't dislike John Cena, I'm the father of a 6 year old boy and I'm happy my son likes to watch wrestling with me and likes John Cena. The kid's gotta start somewhere right? And IMO Cena is just this generation's Hulk Hogan, who was my childhood wrestling hero back in the 80's and early 90's. I started watching wrestling during the golden age. My favorite show ever was when Mr. Perfect turned face before the survivor series to tag with Savage against Flair and Hall on Prime Time Wrestling. Between the best 2-man commentator team ever of Monsoon and Heenan, and the 'conference room' format with Vince, Heenan, & Perfect and two different various faces, Prime Time Wrestling's format has never been matched. As far as I'm concerned, the only truly amazing thing to come from the attitude era was The Rock, (and Kurt Angle as a whiny bitch heel). So I look at this "PG era" (BTW WWE has always been PG with the exception of the attitude era) as a pretty good start (albeit boring start) to a new era of something great like I haven't seen since I was a kid. I see all the makings required for a 3rd golden age of wrestling in this 3rd generation group of wrestlers. Only things that needs to change at this point is to cut the wrestlers loose to make their own promos (Something Steve Austin has been saying for years now) and to get a little better at not telegraphing their moves in the ring to the crowd. It's just too easy to see the communication between the wrestlers and it really hurts the credibility of their matches. We know wrestling is fake, but dude, you gotta keep up kayfab regardless. It also wouldn't hurt to see some oldschool wrestling moves like the extended vertical suplex, belly-to-belly suplex, gutwrench suplex, atomic drops, sling shots, things that made the golden age wrestling matches over the top fun to watch. And a few technical matches here and there like you used to see between Perfect and Hart, or Angle and Benoit would be great too. I really think this cast of talent can do it too. A lot of these guys have been trained by their fathers. Micheal McGillicutty is very reminiscent of Mr Perfect in the ring, and I think that should be played up. Same goes for Ted DiBiase with his dad. They're very close... just a little bit of work on selling their matches by cutting out the telegraph to the audience and some true from-the-heart promos and we'll be in a third golden age. The Rock is JUST the guy to help these guys behind the mic, no body can do it better than he can... except for maybe Kurt Angle as a heel. I don't think I've ever seen a crowd completely infuriated and then owned like when Angle started using the "what!?" chants in his promos.
